Strategy Builder Overview

In this lesson, you’ll dive into the most powerful aspect of the horse racing software—the Strategy Builder. This tool allows you to bring your trading ideas to life and test them against historical data to see if they would have been profitable.

Key Features:

  • 💡 Purpose: The Strategy Builder enables you to program your trading strategies and automatically identifies upcoming horses and races that match your criteria. More importantly, it backtests your strategy against a vast database of past horse races and Betfair prices to show you if it would have been profitable.
  • ⏳ Backtesting: Forget months of paper trading! With just a click, the software simulates trading your strategy over the last 100 races, years, or any time period you choose, providing results in about 10 seconds.
  • 📊 Metrics and Analysis: The software offers a variety of unique metrics to help you assess the stability of your strategy, its long-term potential, and optimal exit points or stop losses. It can even suggest new angles or variations on your strategy.

Three Parts to Building a Strategy:

  1. 📂 Strategy Bunker: Name your strategy and create the first version in your Strategy Bunker. This area allows you to save and reload different versions of your strategies to compare their performance.
  2. 🏇 Horse Selection Rules: Define what you want to trade. Whether it’s all Class 4 races at Ascot, horses that have won their last three races, or more complex criteria, you can configure all the rules here.
  3. 💵 Betting Rules: Define how you want to trade. Decide on entry points, exit strategies, stop losses, and whether to back or lay first. This is the key section where you’ll see potential profits and related figures based on historical data.

Once you’ve set everything up, click the run button, and the software will simulate trading your selections in the past. It will then provide you with detailed results, figures, and ratings, showing whether your strategy is on the right track.
